How long does Saber certificate take?

The time it takes to get a SABER certification does vary depending on the situation, but I will go into more detail to explain the process and the factors that influence it.

1. Product Registration:

Registering your product in the SABER system is usually the first step in the process. This step can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the complexity of your product and your familiarity with the system. It is critical that all the necessary information is filled out correctly, otherwise it may cause delays in subsequent steps.

2. Choose a Certification Body:

Depending on the type of product, you will need to choose a certification body that is recognized by the Saudi Arabian Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO). This step may involve some research and communication to ensure that the body you choose has experience handling your specific product. This step usually does not take too much time, but choosing the wrong body may cause delays in the subsequent process.

3. Document Preparation and Submission:

You will need to prepare and submit a series of documents, which may include product specifications, test reports, declarations of conformity, etc. The time for this step will largely depend on whether you have prepared all the necessary documents in advance. If the documents are incomplete or not in the correct format, the certification body may ask for resubmission, which may extend the entire process.

4. Product Testing (if applicable):

For some products, especially those in categories such as safety, electrical appliances, chemicals, etc., it may be necessary to conduct testing in a designated laboratory. These tests may include electrical safety testing, chemical composition analysis, etc. The time for testing depends on the workload of the laboratory and the complexity of the product. Generally speaking, this step may take a few days to a few weeks. If the test fails, it may be necessary to modify and retest, which will further extend the time.

5. Review and Approval:

Once all tests are passed and all documents are complete, the certification body will review the materials. This step usually takes a few days. If the certification body finds any problems, you may need to make supplements or modifications. The time for this part mainly depends on the complexity of the audit and the efficiency of the certification body.

6. Certificate Issuance:

Once the audit is passed, the SABER certificate will be issued. At this stage, you can download the certificate and use it to pass the Saudi customs clearance process. Usually, the issuance of the certificate is completed within a few days after the audit is passed.

Total time estimate:

  • Fastest: For products like Type 1a, which do not require factory inspection, the fastest time is 1 working days, ; for others, if all materials are well prepared, no additional testing or modification is required, and the product manufacturer cooperates well, the whole process may be completed within 1 weeks.

  • Usually: In most cases, it is estimated to be around 3-4 working days.

  • Longer: If repeated modifications, additional testing or the selection of an inappropriate certification body are required, the whole process may be extended to 1 months or longer.

When planning exports to Saudi Arabia, it is recommended to reserve enough time and ensure that all documents and tests meet the requirements to avoid unnecessary delays.
